My Pets.....
Little Jack...My Heart Rat <3
This is Little Jack....My <3 heart rat, my best friend, my helper, my soul mate.
Almost a year ago i wandered into PAH and mooched over to the adoption centre....as you do. In the tank was apparently a buck who had been there for a while, was all alone. I couldn't see him, so i thought 'well i can rehome him to a loving home if nothing else' but i wanted to see him to judge his age so i asked one of the assistants if i could take a look at him. She opened the tank and lifted one of this edible log things up and there, right there, was this tiny, cutest little baby...OMG, my heart melted and i knew at that moment, for some reason, he was the one! The assistant was trying to catch him and scaring him, so i asked if she wanted me to catch him which, with a sigh of relief, she said yes. I popped my hands in and caught him, popping him straight down my top. He snuggled straight into my armpit and stayed there till he had to go in the carrier. He was already named 'Little Jack' and this has stayed as it suited him as he was so little. On working it out with the assistant he was only about 8 weeks old so for me, PERFECT!
When we arrived home, he went straight back down my top and stayed there for the rest of the day....since then he follows me everywhere. He free ranges in HIS rat room (its def not mine!) He steals, helps, loves, kisses and rules the roost. I call him and he bounds across the room to me from wherever he is, just for a cuddle.
When I'm sewing the hammocks for our sister site, he helps...well i think he does, although i do get very distracted with the snuggling :0)
Not only is he everything i have mentioned but he is so much more, to the other furries as well as me. Normally when hes out playing he does tease the others cause hes out and they arent...little monkey! But one particular day, a very sad day, we had lost one of the most amazing bucks from another group. The whole rat room was disturbed that day, no-one would settle and it was as if they were all sad and distressed. Little Jack came out, as usual, to give me snuggles but he was intent on rushing off that evening. My friend and I watched him, laughing as he had so much to do, discussing the days events and then we understood the urgency of his mission.
We watched him go from cage to cage, each group of rats coming to the bars to him...no squabbling or teasing, just something and then they wandered off and settled. He did this with every cage and then all of a sudden a calmness across the whole room. They understood that Toulouse's time had come and Little Jack reassured them all, every one.
Even now, writing this, it brings tears to my eyes. Tears of sadness, for the losses but also tears of joy to be blessed with such a special boy!
So when you come to visit me and my crew be sure to have a snuggle and a scritch with the special fellow xxx
04/03/14. Sadly Little Jack passed away on November 9th 2013....gaining his wings far too early.
I wanted him to stay forever but he couldnt. I miss this little man more than words can say and my heart is emptier without him.
